Hello brothers and sisters, my name is Brody O and I have been asked today to give a talk on moms and how they are like Jesus.
Mothers are examples of Jesus. In 3rd Nephi, after the three days of darkness when Jesus died, the people heard a still small voice speaking to them. It told them many things. One thing was: "O ye people of these great cities which have fallen, how often have I gathered you as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, and have nourished you."
This is Jesus speaking to the Nephites. He compares himself to a hen, which is a female chicken. Not just any female chicken, but a mother chicken. It is easy to picture a mother hen gathering her little chicks under her wings. It's also easy to picture Jesus gathering us around him.
When I think of moms I think of my own mom. I think of all the tasks that often go unnoticed. Because of my mom, I go to the dentist, I have rides to take me to my practices. My socks are magically clean and matched when they come out of the dryer, I don't sleep in the same sheets for years on end, she makes sure that every holiday is fun and festive, she helps me with my homework, she cuts my hair and gives me hugs. The list goes on.
When we are little, moms teach us to walking talk, then they teach us to read and pray. Moms also teach us how to work hard and how to have fun playing when we are done working. Jesus nourishes our minds by giving us commandments that make us smart and happy.
Moms take us to new places and show us beautiful things in our world. Most importantly mother teach use how to choose the right. They teach us the Gospel of Jesus Christ as they read the scriptures with us. Jesus nourishes our souls by giving us forgiveness through the Atonement.
I remember once where I was playing a rather rambunctious game of basketball in our pool. There were many grownups and adults so I was one of the smaller kids. The game was getting intense and people were pushing and shoving. I got pushed and hit a rock on the side of the pool by a grownup. I felt where I got hit and it was bleeding badly. I went to my dad and he told me to put some duct tape on it. Then I went to my mom and she noticed the deep cut. She drove me to the hospital and I got stitches. I am grateful to my mom for always caring about my health and wellbeing.
I have a testimony that moms do the same work as Jesus. They love us and care about us even when we do the wrong thing. They forgive us when we hurt them. They are happy and cheer for us when we do the right things. I know that Heavenly Father sent me just the right mom for me. I am so glad we have mothers.
I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
